Leaving imprints in the snow
The snow stained with frozen blood
The smell of fear in peoples minds
As they trudge across in mud
Sounds of drumming, beating
Chanting reach their ears
Sliding across the questionable ice
Mixing with salty fears
The sound of shouts and
Crackling of burning fire
Sends beads of sweat above their brow
Creating a stronger desperate desire
Blindly leading the weak ahead
As only nine less stay behind
Standing strong against the odds
Only one purpose on their mind
The river bends and squeaks
As hundreds tread the ice
Yet doesn’t break as few hoped
Until the one willing to sacrifice
